Barack Obama Economic Stimulus Job Creation – Weatherization Services
There has been lots of talk about how President Barack Obama's $790 billion Economic Stimulus Package will create millions of new jobs for American citizens. You might be wondering why I'm talking about it on a site dedicated to energy efficient home heating and cooling. Well, there is a huge new opportunity coming for people interested in home energy efficiency...
President Obama wants a sevenfold jump in the number of homes weatherized each year — from about 140,000 to 1 million households. He is confident that helping moderate and low income people reduce the energy they lose to poor insulation and weatherstripping will have a huge net gain for the country.
This issue is so important to him, that President Obama made it a prominent component of the $790 Billion Economic Stimulus package. The package designates $2.9 billion to $6.2 provide modest-income homes with weatherization services.
This means that thousands of new workers will need to be trained to conduct energy audits and fix weatherization problems.
Many states are scrambling to develop training programs for work that can be as simple as caulking cracks, or as complicated as replacing leaky windows or old furnaces.
A large percentage of these jobs will be entry level positions, but they can be a stepping stone to better positions at the heating and cooling companies that provide the services to the end customers.
Several states already have large programs in place to provide these service, like Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California. Other states will be scrambling to create the infrastructure to train and mobilize the workers needed.
Regardless of which state you live in, there will be a significant job training opportunity available as a result of this portion of Barack Obama's $790 Billion Economic Stimulus Package.
